Dandruff is the result of dry scalp or a skin condition called seborrheic dermatitis. It can also be a case of eczema, psoriasis, or a yeast like fungus called malassezia. It usually includes lots of itching and either yellow or white flakes on the scalp.
Here are Some Ways to get Rid of Dandruff:
Two aspirin can be crushed up into a fine powder and added to your shampoo before you use it. Leave it on for one or two minutes and rinse your hair well and then wash it again with your regular shampoo. Aspirin contains salicylic acid which is the same ingredient in medicated shampoos.
You can wet your hair slightly and take a handful of baking soda and rinse your hair it is recommended that you do not shampoo your hair. This reduces the fungi that causes dandruff. Your hair will probably feel dried out for the first few weeks however, it will then start to produce natural oils in your hair that will make your hair softer and free of flakes.
Salt is also an effective tool for eliminating flakes. Just take a handful of salt and rub it into your scalp giving yourself a head massage. This will loosen the flakes on your scalp. Then you just wash your hair with your usual shampoo.
Garlic’s natural anti-microbial properties are also useful for eliminating dandruff by getting rid of the bacteria that causes dandruff. Crush a clove of garlic and rub it into your scalp. If you want to eliminate the pungent smell mix the garlic with honey and massage it into your scalp before you shampoo your hair.
Indian Lilac aka “Neem” is great for healing dandruff. Just take a handful of leaves and boil them in about four cups of water, let it cool then strain the compound then use it as a rinse two or three times a week.
Liquids Useful for Eliminating Dandruff from your Head:
Tea tree oil already in your regular commercial shampoo, or adding a few drops of tea tree oil in your regular shampoo are great for eliminating dandruff. Shampoos that have at least 5% of tea tree oil are the most effective for this.
The acid in Apple Cider Vinegar or White Vinegar change the ph in your hair making it harder for yeast to grow that are harmful and cause dandruff. Use about a quarter cup of vinegar and combine it with a quarter cup of water and put it together in a spray bottle and spritz your hair and scalp, then wrap your head in a towel and let it sit for 15-20 minutes and then wash as usual. If you do this at least two times a week you should see a dramatic change.
If you wash your hair as usual and then follow it up with an alcohol based mouthwash such as Listerine this will decrease dandruff causing yeasts, then condition your hair as usual.
Coconut oil has been found to be effective by massaging 3-5 teaspoons into your scalp and letting it sit for an hour then wash and rinse your hair as usual.
These are just some of the ways you can get rid of dandruff naturally and rather quickly. Before you spend money on medicated shampoos try these methods and see if they work. It is better to use natural methods for anything to avoid a high cost and possible side effects.
